Top 10 Dishes You Must Try at the Best Restaurant in Bangalore
Every great restaurant has a shortlist of dishes that define it, the plates that guests return for, the ones that get photographed, shared, and recommended to friends. At Saffron & Stone, widely regarded as the best restaurant in Bangalore for fresh, honest cooking, we have more than a few of those.
Whether you’re a first-time visitor unsure where to start or a regular looking to try something new, this list of our top 10 must-try dishes is your perfect guide. In no particular order, though we do have a favorite; here they are.
1. Ghee Roast Dosa The Breakfast Icon
Our most ordered breakfast item, and for good reason. Made with a 24-hour fermented batter and finished with a generous ladle of cultured ghee on a cast-iron griddle, this dosa has a shatteringly crisp exterior and a soft, airy interior. Served with house-ground coconut chutney and sambar that’s been slow-cooked since 5 AM.
2. Single-Origin Filter Coffee
Not technically a dish, but no visit to Saffron & Stone is complete without our filter coffee. We source our beans from a single estate in Coorg and brew each cup fresh to order using a traditional brass filter. It is, according to our regulars, the best cup of coffee in Indiranagar. We may be biased, but the reviews speak for themselves.
3. Grilled Chicken Rice Bowl
Our most popular lunch item. A generous portion of free-range grilled chicken thigh, marinated overnight in a house spice blend, served over jasmine rice with a roasted garlic tahini drizzle, pickled cucumber, and a soft-boiled egg. It’s filling, balanced, and the kind of meal that makes you genuinely look forward to lunch.
4. Mediterranean Mezze Platter
A shareable spread built for two (or one, if you’re feeling hungry). Includes house-made hummus, smoky baba ganoush, warm pita, marinated olives, labneh dusted with za’atar, and seasonal crudités. It’s the perfect choice if you want to try multiple flavors without committing to a single dish and it pairs beautifully with our house lemonade.
5. Slow-Cooked Lamb Shank
This is our dinner showstopper. A single lamb shank braised for six hours in a spiced tomato and onion gravy until the meat falls clean off the bone. Served on a bed of creamy polenta with a handful of gremolata. It’s the dish guests drive across Bangalore for, and it’s available only from 7 PM onwards.
6. Seasonal Soup of the Day
Every morning, our sous chef prepares one soup using whatever produce looks best at the market that day. It might be a roasted tomato bisque, a spiced lentil shorba, or a delicate leek and potato velouté. It changes daily, which means it’s always at peak freshness and always a surprise worth ordering.
7. Wood-Fired Paneer Tikka
Our vegetarian star. Thick paneer cubes marinated in a smoky yogurt blend and finished in our wood-fired oven until charred at the edges. Served with a bright coriander-mint chutney that cuts through the richness. Even committed non-vegetarians order this one.
8. Banana Leaf Fish Curry
A recipe inspired by the coastal Karnataka tradition of steam cooking fish in banana leaves with a coconut-based masala. We use fresh basa or kingfish depending on the day’s catch, and the result is a curry that is simultaneously light, aromatic, and deeply satisfying. Served with red rice and a side of papad.
9. Dark Chocolate Lava Cake
Our dessert menu is deliberately short four items because we believe in doing a few things exceptionally well. The lava cake leads the list. Made with 72% single-origin dark chocolate, baked fresh to order (allow 12 minutes), and served with vanilla bean ice cream and a scattering of sea salt flakes. Worth every second of the wait.
10. The Saffron & Stone Thali
Available only on Sundays, this is our love letter to the Indian thali tradition. A rotating selection of five small dishes, two curries, dal, rice, roti, papad, pickle, and a sweet, all made from scratch and reflecting whatever’s seasonal that week. It changes every Sunday and is available until sold out. It’s the best way to experience everything our kitchen can do in a single meal.
